Who We Are

Study GRC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We make Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) knowledge free for everyone.

We started as a small study group in November 2023. We incorporated in Texas as a nonprofit in February 2024 and received our IRS 501(c)(3) determination in February 2026. Today we’re a growing community of learners, career-changers, practitioners, students, small business owners, and curious minds — and we’re just getting started.

Why GRC Matters

GRC isn’t something that only happens inside big corporations. It shapes the systems everyone lives and works within — every day.

When a company mishandles your personal data, that’s a governance failure. When a bank takes on risks it doesn’t understand, ordinary people lose jobs, savings, and trust. When a hospital skips safety protocols, patients pay the price. GRC is how organizations make better decisions, protect the people who depend on them, and earn the trust they’re asking for.

Done well, it’s not just compliance paperwork — it’s protection. For employees, customers, patients, students, and communities.

But GRC can be hard to get into. The field is complex. Quality resources are scattered and inconsistent. Paywalls and expensive certifications block many people before they even start. And for those who do find their way in, it can still be hard. Finding reliable guidance. Finding a supportive community. Finding someone willing to answer a basic question. It shouldn’t be this hard.

That’s the gap we exist to close. Not just unlocking access — but making the knowledge genuinely findable, understandable, and supported. For newcomers trying to break in. For practitioners navigating something unfamiliar. For small businesses trying to do right by their customers. For students who’ve never heard the term before.

We’re a nonprofit with nothing to sell. Just open knowledge, real community, and people who want to help.

What Makes Us Different

  • Built by the community, for the community. Volunteers from every background — newcomers, career-changers, students, and experienced practitioners — drive everything we do. No vendors, no training companies, no algorithms.
  • No gatekeeping — except as restricted by law or other requirements. No paywalls. No required credentials. No “you don’t belong here.” GRC knowledge is for everyone, full stop.
  • People over profit. All current board members and operational officers serve as volunteers. Donations support our mission, resources, and keeping the lights on.
  • We prioritize platform independence. Our website is open source. Our videos are on our self-hosted PeerTube alongside YouTube and Odysee. We’re building toward greater independence while using community-friendly platforms that align with our values.

Our Team

Study GRC is led by a volunteer board of directors, supported by an advisory board and community moderators who help keep our spaces welcoming and productive.
